Antonio Almada, a successful entrepreneur from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, made a significant decision to move to the U.S. with his family in search of better business opportunities and a safer environment. Despite running a thriving contracting business in Brazil, where he serviced major clients like Burger King and Heineken, Antonio sought more security and stability, particularly for his children. This E-2 visa case study highlights his journey, showcasing how he leveraged his business experience to achieve his immigration goals and secure a promising future in the United States.
“The decision was driven by personal security,” Antonio explains. “We lived in a good neighborhood, but Brazil isn’t safe, and I wanted a better life for my kids.”
With his sights set on the U.S., Antonio turned to Visa Franchise to help him navigate the complexities of immigration and franchise investment. Through careful guidance, Antonio discovered DreamMaker Kitchen & Bath, a franchise that aligned with his experience in construction, albeit with a residential focus.
Antonio’s first hurdle was deciding how to legally relocate to the U.S. While exploring various visa options, he realized that the EB-5 investor visa required a substantial financial commitment—far beyond what he was prepared to invest. Instead, Antonio opted for the E-2 visa, leveraging his dual nationality and making a more modest investment in a U.S. business.
“Visa Franchise presented me with a number of options,” Antonio recalls. “DreamMaker Kitchen & Bath stood out because of its full-service, turnkey business model, which was the closest to what I had done in Brazil.”
DreamMaker offered Antonio the structure he was seeking—combining a well-established brand with a high-quality service offering. Unlike other kitchen and bath remodeling franchises that operated on a smaller scale, DreamMaker provided a premium service that resonated with his values.
“I always aim high,” Antonio says. “DreamMaker’s name, process, and environment were top-notch, and I didn’t want to settle for anything less.”
Antonio officially opened his DreamMaker Kitchen & Bath franchise in February 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning to disrupt the global economy. It was a difficult time to start a business, but Antonio leaned on the strong support network that DreamMaker provided.
“The true value of the franchise is the network,” Antonio explains. “We constantly share problems and solutions, and the franchisor offers regular coaching and workshops. Doug, the franchise owner, was instrumental in helping me survive during the pandemic.”
Despite the challenges of launching during such uncertain times, Antonio was able to stay focused on his long-term vision, receiving weekly coaching sessions and valuable advice from other franchisees across the U.S.
Though the first few months were incredibly tough—Antonio didn’t land his first client until six months in—his persistence paid off. DreamMaker’s premium positioning allowed Antonio to attract high-end clients looking for full-service, luxury remodeling.
“DreamMaker is not about flipping houses for profit. We’re turning dreams into reality for people who want to enjoy their homes day-to-day,” Antonio explains.
In 2022, Antonio worked with just 13 clients, focusing on full house remodels and premium projects. His approach to focusing on quality over quantity allowed him to deliver high-value services with meticulous attention to detail. The strategy paid off, with satisfied clients returning for repeat business.
“I recently had my first repeat client from 2020 come back,” Antonio shares proudly. “That’s when I knew I was doing something right.”
Antonio is candid about the realities of starting a business in the U.S. and the challenges of transitioning from Brazil. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: “There are no shortcuts. Be prepared for tough years, and don’t expect immediate success. It takes time and hard work, but if you stay the course, the rewards will come.”
For Antonio, the American dream is real—but it requires dedication, perseverance, and the right support network. With Visa Franchise and DreamMaker Kitchen & Bath by his side, Antonio is now living that dream.
