Alina and Fabian, a Toronto-based couple, embarked on a journey to move to the US with hopes of securing an E-2 visa by investing in a franchise business. With their sights set on relocating to Florida, they initially sought to purchase an existing business. However, after months of searching and facing significant delays in E-2 visa processing, they shifted their focus to franchises.

“It was quite overwhelming trying to evaluate the best fit on our own,” said Alina. “We really wanted to make a smart financial decision but also ensure it aligned with our personal circumstances.”

This challenge led them to seek the expertise of Visa Franchise, a firm specializing in helping foreign nationals find the right franchise investments for U.S. visa petitions.

The challenge: Finding the right franchise in a competitive market

For Alina and Fabian, the journey was filled with challenges. In addition to navigating the complexities of E-2 visa processing, they were set on a particular city in Florida, which further narrowed their options.

“The economic climate made it difficult to purchase an existing business, especially with E-2 visa delays. Sellers didn’t want to wait for months while we sorted out our visa,” Alina explained.

Moreover, with a specific location in mind, many franchise territories in their desired area were already taken, making the search even more complicated.

“We were looking to invest all of our savings in relocating to a new country,” said Fabian. “It was scary at times, but Visa Franchise’s guidance helped us weigh our options carefully.”

The solution: Support from Visa Franchise and choosing Accelerated Waste Solution

Visa Franchise introduced Alina and Fabian to several franchise opportunities, but it was their thorough communication with the Visa Franchise team that ultimately led them to the right fit.

After reviewing approximately 10 franchises and speaking with four or five franchisors directly, they narrowed their search down to two final options.

“When we spoke to the other franchisees and evaluated the financials, Accelerated Waste Solution (AWS) stood out,” Fabian noted. “The upfront investment was more reasonable, and the proximity of their head office to our desired location in Florida was a big plus.”

AWS, a home services franchise specializing in waste management, offered not only the right financial fit but also strong support from existing franchisees and the franchisor, something that further reassured Alina and Fabian.

“Speaking to other franchisees was crucial,” Fabian emphasized. “They were very open about their financials and had nothing but positive things to say about the franchisor, which made us feel confident in our decision.”

The results: Securing their franchise and preparing for launch

After deciding to invest in Accelerated Waste Solution, Alina and Fabian took further steps to ensure a smooth franchise launch. They visited the franchisor’s head office in Tampa, Florida, meeting the owners in person and conducting an in-depth discovery day.

“The franchisor was very accommodating, and we felt comfortable negotiating certain terms,” Alina recalled. “Meeting them in person really solidified our decision.”

Though they are still waiting for E-2 visa approval, they have made significant strides in preparing for their business opening. Fabian has already completed franchise training and is on track to open the business officially on March 1st. Additionally, they have secured contracts and established connections with property management companies in the area.

Key takeaways

  • Thorough communication: Frequent check-ins with Visa Franchise, both on the franchise opportunities and location considerations, helped Alina and Fabian avoid potential dealbreakers early in the process.
  • Franchisee feedback: Speaking directly with other franchisees was key in gaining confidence in the franchise and understanding the real financial commitments.
  • Personal connection with the franchisor: Meeting the AWS team in person during a discovery day gave them a deeper understanding of the franchise’s culture and further reassured them they were making the right choice.
  • Preparedness for the E-2 visa process: Despite delays in the E-2 visa process, they have made substantial progress, including acquiring necessary equipment and securing contracts to ensure a strong launch once the visa is approved.

Conclusion: Advice for aspiring franchise investors

Alina and Fabian’s advice to prospective franchise investors is to stay patient and thorough during the process. “Don’t settle,” said Fabian. “Do your research, speak to franchisees, and make sure you feel comfortable with the franchisor.”

“Don’t overanalyze, but ensure you’re confident with your decision,” Alina added. “Once we found the right fit, everything clicked into place.”

Visa Franchise provided the guidance and support Alina and Fabian needed to find the perfect franchise match while preparing for their E-2 visa application.

Their story highlights the importance of open communication, thorough research, and building strong relationships with franchisees and franchisors.
